What happens to your email address
Draft. One thing still has to be settled before this page is finished: who is legally responsible for the list. No mailing service has been chosen yet either. Everything else below describes exactly what the site does today.
What is collected
Your email address, and the date and time you signed up. Those two things are stored, and nothing else. No name, no country, no profile, no tracking.
The form has one field you fill in. It also carries three technical fields that WordPress needs in order to accept a submission, and one hidden tick box that catches automated spam. You never see or touch that box. None of the four are stored, and if the spam box arrives ticked the message is discarded without being saved.
Where it is stored right now
In the database of this website itself, on the servers of TransIP, the Dutch company that hosts this site. There is no mailing service yet, so the address goes nowhere else.
TransIP can technically reach the database, in the way that any hosting company can reach what sits on its own servers. They act only on instruction and do not use the address for anything. Like every web server, theirs also keeps ordinary access logs, which include the IP address of each visit. Those logs belong to the hosting, not to the mailing list, and are not linked to it.
What it is used for
To send you the seven-day checklist, and to tell you when a new book in the In 7 Days series is out. That is the whole list. It is never sold, rented, or shared, and it is never used to advertise anything that is not one of these books.
How to get off the list
Write to wil@wilheaton.com and the address is deleted, without asking why. Once a mailing service is in place, every message also carries a one-click unsubscribe link.
Tracking
There is no analytics on this site, no tracking pixels, no advertising scripts, and no embedded widgets from other companies. The fonts are served from this site itself, not from an outside font service. The site sets no cookies of its own for visitors who only read it.
When the mailing service arrives
When one is chosen, it will be named here by company and country, together with what it stores. The addresses collected in the meantime move over to it and the copies kept in this website are deleted, so they never sit in two places.
Questions
